On The Steps: How Sydney's Iconic Concert Series Empowers Indie Artists

Live Nation Australia has expanded its On The Steps concert series at the Sydney Opera House Forecourt to 12 nights, running from November 28 to December 12, 2026.
This year's lineup features an impressive mix of international and local acts, including Australian Crawl, Suki Waterhouse, Wolf Alice, and DMA'S. The series has grown significantly since its inception, now accommodating up to 7,000 attendees per show and expecting over 50,000 fans across the season.
One of the standout aspects of On The Steps is its commitment to supporting the Australian music industry. All proceeds from official merchandise sales go directly to Support Act, a charity providing financial and mental health support to music workers in crisis. Fans also have the option to add a donation when purchasing tickets.
Independent Artists Take the Stage
While the lineup includes big names like James Blake and Dizzee Rascal, the series also highlights independent artists. Australian acts like Spacey Jane and the Amity Affliction are featured prominently, with Spacey Jane selling out both of their shows. This focus on local talent provides a crucial platform for independent musicians to reach a wider audience.
What this means for you
As an independent artist, the success of On The Steps demonstrates the growing demand for live music and the importance of platforms that support local talent. This series serves as a model for how concerts can benefit both artists and the broader music community.
By prioritizing local acts and donating to Support Act, On The Steps underscores the value of community and collaboration in the music industry. For indie artists, this highlights the potential of leveraging local events and charitable initiatives to gain exposure and support.
