UMG's Expansion in Southeast Asia: A New Era for Artist Management

UMG's Expansion in Southeast Asia: A New Era for Artist Management

Universal Music Group (UMG) is making waves in Southeast Asia with its recent announcement of managing over 130 artists in the region.

This strategic move underscores UMG's commitment to evolving its services to meet the demands of modern artists. During a fireside session at the Music Matters strand of the All That Matters conference in Singapore, UMG's CEO of Africa, Middle East, and Asia (AMEA), Adam Granite, highlighted the region's pivotal role in global music trends. He emphasized that Southeast Asia is not just a consumer of global hits but also a key originator of viral music phenomena.

Shifting Focus to Comprehensive Artist Support

Granite pointed out the changing nature of record label services, moving beyond traditional '360' deals to more holistic '365' partnerships. This means providing year-round support and management, a service that Granite noted was previously lacking in the region. By expanding its management capabilities, UMG aims to offer a more comprehensive service that addresses the evolving needs of artists and songwriters.

What this means for you

For independent artists in Southeast Asia, UMG's increased focus on artist management opens up new opportunities for professional support and regional exposure. As UMG strengthens its presence, independent musicians can benefit from enhanced resources and a more robust music ecosystem that fosters growth and innovation.

Moreover, the region's growing influence on global music trends means that local artists have a greater chance of reaching international audiences. This two-way street of cultural exchange allows Western artists to tap into Southeast Asia's vibrant music scene while local artists gain access to broader markets.
